Measuring Liquid Volumes

Metric Imperial US cup
236.6 ml 0.42 pint 1
0.57 litre 1 pint 2
1 litre 1.76 pints 4
1.43 litres 1 quart / 2 pints 6

5ml     = 1 teaspoon
15ml   = 1 tablespoon 60ml or 4 tablespoons is US cup
150ml = pint  /  5 fl oz

The US cup is ideal for measuring proportional volumes, but it is not very effective at measuring weight, as different ingredients will vary in mass to volume ratio.  Converting cups to weight is a complex issue.  It is best to obtain a cup measure if a recipe required non-liquid cup measures.   Also note that:

1 US cup = 1.04 Canadian cups

1 US cup = 0.95 Metric cups

The Pint is another variable measure.  UK and Australian pints are 20 fluid ounces (568ml).  American pints are 16 fluid ounces and Canadians use both measures in their recipes.
